Scottish born songstress Donna Canale releases first single in 18 years.
Donna Canale is releasing her new single ‘Waltz for the girls’ on August 31st with a concert at The Bedford, in Balham.
Seasoned performer and session vocalist, Donna has appeared at The Royal Festival Hall, The London Palladium, The Barbican and most major concert halls around the UK and Ireland as the special guest in a variety of Big Band shows as well as touring in Japan and the Middle East. Drawing on over three decades as a singer, and even having a couple of pop chart busting hits with ‘Mucho Mambo (Sway)’ and ’Mambo Italiano’ for the dance act ‘Shaft’, Donna has rediscovered the joy and simplicity of just ‘being’ with a guitar and voice and is currently recording a new album from which the new track comes.
Her last highly acclaimed Solo Album ‘Thinking of You’ came out back in 2002, then Donna took some time out to raise her twin daughters and stepped back from touring life.
But this month she is once again releasing her own self-penned music starting with a beguiling, folk influenced song with a lilting waltz rhythm.
The uplifting soundscape created in ‘Waltz for the girls’ is a subtle blend of gentle mandolin, guitar and piano which steadily swells into a fully orchestrated 2nd chorus, drawing an emotive response from the listener.
Describing her inspiration for the song, Donna says “There is no love like love for your children. This song came out almost as a lullaby and describes the language and narratives used when tucking your small children into bed at night. It’s a special little ritual that anyone can relate to in terms of either being that ‘once upon a time’ child or a parent themselves. ”
Donna’s musical influences have been an eclectic mix of folk, jazz, pop and acoustic rock and this is reflected in her song-writing. She effortlessly straddles a variety of styles and creates interesting vocal harmonies, time signatures and grooves. There’s a delicate sensibility to ‘Waltz for the girls’ which will delight from the first few bars.
